Planting trees on top of an underground parking garage
24/08/2020 - 14:51
In December 2017, multi-trunk robinia trees were planted at De Munt (Roeselare, Belgium), on top of an underground car park, to create more "volume" on the square. Almost 3 years after planting, the trees develop optimally thanks to a specially selected tree substrate including TerraCottem soil conditioner.
TerraCottem acts as a life insurance policy for the plants. It not only saves replacement work and costs caused by plant mortality but helps achieve a mature planting faster.
An interesting experiment on tree saplings by Prof. Dr. Willem Van Cotthem (Ghent University, Belgium)

One of the major problems of planting tree saplings, e.g. for reforestation projects, is getting the nicely watered saplings, coming from the nursery, growing and surviving in a dry soil. In many cases survival rate of tree saplings in the field is rather low (even 30-40 % in some Western African countries).
It was at the 2010 Bigga Turf Management Exhibition, Harrogate (UK) that TerraCottem turf, our turf specific soil conditioner was launched internationally.
"A visitor to a garden sees the successes, usually. The gardener remembers mistakes and losses, some for a long time, and imagines the garden in a year, and in an unimaginable future."
