Reconstructing the town square, city of Oudenaarde, Belgium: 3 years after planting, the new trees are greening the city centre

In 2016-2017, the market square of Oudenaarde was redesigned. The objective was to restore its historical function and to turn it back into a pleasant and much-visited public space. The makeover ended with the planting of 25 indigenous trees. 3 years after planting, these trees now characterize the renewed city center.

In December 2017, multi-trunk robinia trees were planted at De Munt (Roeselare, Belgium), on top of an underground car park, to create more "volume" on the square. In many cases survival rate of tree saplings in the field is rather low (even 30-40 % in some Western African countries).
