Are plant roots competing with our hydro absorbant polymers for the same water?

The hydroabsorbant polymers in the TerraCottem mixtures were chosen for, amongst other things, their ability to absorb, retain and ultimately make water available to plant roots. The hydrogels contained in TerraCottem have absorption tensions which allow plant roots to pick up the water on demand.
The higher a soil amendment’s water retention capacity, the more plant available water?

The water retention capacity is not necessarily relevant in terms of performance, as high water retention capacity does not necessarily mean high water availability.
The answer is more complicated than the question. The question is also related to this one: "how long does TerraCottem last?". The answer is complex and requires us to break down the soil conditioners into their main groups of components as each group has a different lifespan.
What makes the TerraCottem soil conditioning technology different from pure polymers?

The TerraCottem soil conditioners are much more than a polymer. What makes TerraCottem unique is the synergetic effect of all its components on plant growth. Water savings is an important TerraCottem benefit but most of our professional customers value the increased root growth, the healthier plants, the higher survival rate, the better plant establishment and other advantages equally.
Are all products containing hydroabsorbent polymers the same?

Hydroabsorbent, water-absorbing or superabsorbent polymers (SAP), hydrogels or superabsorbers… although on the exterior they may look similar to another, their chemical structure can be vastly different.
